BOAF 2020 Call for Conference Speakers

You are invited to submit a proposal to present a session at Building Officials Association of Florida (BOAF) Annual Conference & Expo. The conference sessions will facilitate dialogue on ways to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the public through safe building practices. Complete the form at the bottom of this page to submit your idea for BOAF 2020.

BOAF 2020 will be held June 7-10, 2020 (Sun. - Wed.) at the Renaissance Orlando at Sea World. 

We seek proposals that reflect the adventurous and innovative spirit of the conference. There will be sessions that cut across the traditional areas of building code compliance, such as the fundamentals of code topics and the intent behind the code, but also innovative and leading-edge topics in building safety, specialized code, leadership and other administrative areas, such as information technology. Presentations should help attendees anticipate, understand, and respond to the rapidly changing needs of building code compliance professionals in the 21st century. 

We invite professionals from all types of organizations, as well as those who are working in the private sector, to submit proposals. Proposals should include a description and attach an outline of the presentation.

Presentation proposals must be submitted online by the deadline of December 3, 2019. 


Presentations should relate to building code compliance professionals, the expected implementation of the Florida Building Code 7th Edition, the intent behind the code, leadership, administrative areas, emerging technology, etc.

Length of Presentation

Presentations will range between 1-2 hours depending on the quality of proposals and time allotted. Panels may be created from two or more of the submitted proposals.

Please do not submit a proposal unless you will be willing to make a presentation on any of the conference dates (June 7-10, 2020)

Presenter Expenses
Presenters are required to cover all travel and lodging expenses. A reduced registration fee for full registration or day passes will be offered to presenters. Conference full registration fee covers three lunches, one reception and the closing banquet. The hotel rate is
$179.00 single or double occupancy, plus tax. 

Submission of Presentation Materials
Handout materials and audiovisual presentations from each session will be made available on the association's Web site prior to the conference. Presenters whose presentations are accepted agree to provide the association with an electronic copy of their handout materials three weeks in advance of the conference.

Non-Commercial Presentations
This conference is for sharing information and techniques to help improve the profession of building code compliance. Please plan to share content rather than an "infomercial" in these sessions. If you have a service or product for sale, indicate that on the submission form.

It is very important that the person listed as the contact person take the responsibility to communicate with all co-presenters regarding all correspondence concerning the conference.

  • Session abstract (a maximum of 75 words that describes your presentation and what people will learn). NOTE: this description will be placed in the printed program
  • Importance of the topic to building code compliance (takeaways)
  • Include presentation history of where and when this session has been presented. Please know that BOAF is seeking fresh and new content for the annual conference. Our preference is that your presentation has not been viewed at other events.
  • Professional expertise of session presenter(s) included in a detailed resume
  • Contact information for presenter

How Proposals Are Reviewed
Members of the Professional Development & Education Committee (PDEC) will review the proposals. Proposals are evaluated on clarity, content significance, timeliness, problem-solving methods, originality, and presenter expertise.
