Accelerated Cross Training Program

Legislative Changes Improve Cross Training Program

The voice of the BOAF Membership was heard loudly in Tallahassee this year. BOAF members from around the state requested legislative changes during the 2016 cycle to accelerate the process for our members to gain additional credentials to reduce the number of years’ experience required to qualify for cross training. The Florida Legislature listened, and significant changes to our licensing regulations were enacted.

These changes will result in changes to the BOAF Cross Training Programs, including Building, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, 1 & 2 Family Dwelling for Inspectors and Plans Examiners.

In preparation for the new rules, BOAF has placed the current program on temporary hold until late August 2016. We are updating and improving the program and its component courses and constructing advanced delivery methods. We will issue an announcement when the new program is active.

The new BOAF Cross Training programs (Building, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing) each cap at 200 hours of training, with classroom hours ranging from 40-50 hours, based on program. We will be implementing several online courses to allow students to complete the training without the additional burden of time away from the office and travel expenses. This is an entire restructure of the programs. We hope to have the restructured program released to the membership and customer base in the next couple of weeks, and to have classes coming online within a couple of months.

Those individuals currently enrolled in one of BOAF’s cross training programs will have the option of completing the previous program, or transitioning into the new program.  We’re working on an audit sheet right now that will go out to program participants to confirm the completed courses we have on file, and to get a number on the progress of OJT.

We understand the importance of this program, not just to the BOAF Membership, but to the industry. We are making every attempt to get it rolled out as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more about the new BOAF Cross Training Program, please complete the form below.
