Text Box: ICC GULF COAST REGION IX Board of Directors Meeting June 13, 2008   The Region IX Board of Directors held their Annual Business Meeting in Gulfport Mississippi in conjunction with the Building Officials Association of Mississippi’s  (BOAM) annual educational conference.  I think I share the sentiment of the rest of the Region IX Board of Directors in attendance in thanking BOAM for their hospitality.   Steve Shapiro, ICC President; Jimmy Brothers and Bill Dupler, ICC Board of Directors members; and Mark Roberts, ICC Regional Manager for Government Relations were in attendance and continue to pledge their support of Region IX as well as all the other local and state chapters of ICC.   The Board of Directors conducted a considerable amount of business during the meeting.  The following is a short summary of the committee work:   The By Laws Committee submitted a couple of by laws changes that were approved.  The by law changes were to add a Code Development Committee to the list of committees and to create a position of Executive Director to serve at the pleasure of the Board.  Both by laws past with unanimous approval. The Education Committee submitted a proposal to hold a Region IX Education Conference in January of 2009.  The Board approved of the concept and the committee will be working out the details and reporting back to the Board at the next Board of Directors meeting. The Nominating Committee presented the slate of officers for Region IX that will take office in September at the ICC Annual Business Meeting.  The slate consisted of Bhola Dhume, Louisiana, as President; Bill Carrigee, Mississippi, as Vice President; Tom Dozier, Alabama, Secretary; and Alan Plante, Florida, as Treasurer.  The Board unanimously approved the slate presented.  The committee recommended that Region IX support Jimmy Brothers in his efforts to be elected Secretary/Treasurer of ICC.  The Board unanimously approved the recommendation. The Membership Committee reported that they were developing a database of our membership in order to provide timely information as needed.   Upon completion of the committee reports, the Board approved a motion to not only support Jimmy Brothers by our words, but to provide him with financial support in the amount of $500.00 for his campaign for Secretary/Treasurer of ICC.    Don Fuchs was appointed as Executive Director for Region IX.  After a short discussion on the work Don had already done for the chapter the Board of Directors appointed Don to the newly created position of Executive Director.  Congratulations or condolences to Don, I don’t really know which would be most appropriate :-)   The next Board of Directors meeting will be held at the ICC Annual Business Meeting in Minneapolis Minnesota.  The tentative date for the meeting will be Monday, September 15, 2008.  The new officers for the region will be installed at that meeting.   It has been an honor for me to be your President this year.  I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting the members from all the states that Region IX represents.  If nothing else is accomplished by the forming of the Region IX Chapter, the friendships that are created are worth the efforts.  I would like to thank BOAM for their hospitality while hosting our board meeting.  It is great to see the continued participation by ICC.  Thanks to Steve, Jimmy, Bill, and Mark.  On a personal note I was disappointed that I could not attend the entire conference due to the conflict with the Building Officials Association of Florida conference, but the time I was able to be in Mississippi was really enjoyable.  That was a great fish fry ya’ll put on.   Respectfully Submitted   Ronnie Spooner President ICC Gulf Coast Region IX Ronnie.spooner@talgov.com
